Represent messages of various types (asynchronous, call, creation, destruction, simple, and return) between lifelined header elements and/or the left and right environments.

Message elements are added and modified using the Message Input Form which is identical for all message variants:

TIP: Pressing the Esc key will clear the contents of the input form and return the focus to the Type combo box. You can then select the type of element you want to add from the dropdown or by typing the first few letters of the desired selection.

From	Name of the lifelined header element (or environment) to serve as the source of the message
To	Name of the lifelined header element (or environment) to serve as the destination of the message
Share Guideline	Check to share the guideline (horizontal line) with other message elements
Name	Name of the message (displayed above the message)
Attributes	Attributes of the message (displayed below the message)
Doc	Documentation for the message
Show Doc	Check to show documentation for the message in the diagram as an element documentation note or uncheck to hide (depending on Diagram Properties)
Embed Return	Check to embed the return in the same message (avoid the need for an explicit return message)
Return	Return text for embedded return messages
Returnable	Indicates if the message is considered returnable (for example, asynchronous messages are not returnable by default)

TIP: You can edit the element's documentation notes in a larger window using the Edit Documentation... command in the Diagram Menu
