Invalid Printer Settings Error
Sequence Diagram Editor  Top  Previous  Next

Sequence Diagram Editor requires that at least one printer be installed on your computer in order for certain operations to function properly. Note that an actual physical printer is not required, just the printer driver. The following operations cannot be performed without an installed printer:
·Page Setup
·Print or Print Preview
·Diagram export to RTF, PDF, or images
This topic describes how you can install a printer on your computer even if you don't have a physical printer attached. Doing this will solve the problem and allow you to change the page setup and export diagrams without a printer.
Windows XP
·Open the Control Panel (Start Menu»Control Panel)
·Select the Printers and Faxes item, this should display the Printers and Faxes explorer
·Click on the Add a Printer link under the Printer Tasks panel to bring up the Add Printer Wizard (under Windows 2000/Me/NT/98, the Add Printer wizard is invoked through an item in the explorer)
·Since you don't have an actual printer attached to the computer, you will be using the manual option rather than Plug and Play. Click next to continue to the next page.

·Select the "Local printer" option and uncheck the box to "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer". The click Next to proceed.

·Choose the "FILE: (Print to File)" port from the dropdown list. Click Next to proceed.

·Select a printer driver to use. The actual printer driver is not important, however the application has been tested using the HP LaserJet 4 driver shown above. Once you select a driver, click Next to proceed.

·Give a name to your printer and select to use it as the default printer (since there are no other printers)

·Select the "Do not share this printer" option and click Next to proceed.

·We recommend to not print a test page

·Click on the Finish button to complete the process and install the printer on your computer
The process to install a printer on Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT and Windows 98SE is similar to the process just described except the Add Printer Wizard may be slightly different than the Windows XP version.
